Wheel Balance. As carbon rims have become deeper, the longer valve stems have created a growing imbalance problem for the wheel. The rims themselves are already 2-8 grams heavier at the valve as the area has to be heavily reinforced with carbon to prevent collapse of the hole.  Then the inner tube overlap/seam are at the valve, (in tubulars, the base tape also overlaps here), the valve stem has a 2 ply rubber reinforcement at the valve, and finally the metal valve stem which is all heavier than the carbon fiber in the rest of the wheel.  In total, a 60mm deep wheel typically has 10-16 grams of imbalance at the valve which is barely noticeable to the rider, but an 82mm deep rim requires an additional 20-25mm of valve extender adding another 3-4 grams.

Had some wobbles from my front wheel during high-speed descents. Now running very smoothly

SpeedBalance

It balanced my aero wheel nicely. I had to add a bike computer magnet to the SpeedBalance add enough weight to counterbalance the valve stem though.

Easy way to balance a wheel

Easy to setup. For my rear wheel a smudge too little weight in the non valve blob to fully balance the wheel, but definitely close enough.

Speedbalancer

Every unbalance must be gone, works only and benefit On certaining speed. Triade: latex + good tire and speedbalancer can not not be worse!

Speed balance makes a difference at high speeds

I had been going crazy with unbalanced wheels, my bike would shake in the work stand when I spun the wheel up. Speed balance is a great counterpart to speed shield. Set up was easy after watching the video although getting the front wheel to spin over 20mph to test the balance was not easy. With the wheels balanced the difference is noticeable on my road/cross bike wheels. The magnet part of speed balance didn’t work for my speed sensor, it’s just too far away for it to work with a fork mounted wireless sensor.
