Ask Josh Anything #009
In this Ask-Josh-Anything episode of Marginal Gains, we ask you to imagine Josh as your boy scout leader, and whether that would be the most awesome — or terrifying — thing in the world. (The jury's out on that question by the way). Then we settle in and talk about how Silca's new online Pressure Calculator works, why aero tires are no longer a thing, hysteresis issues of swerving under hard effort, whether being aero matters when you're in a big peloton, and a lot more. Gather round the fire!

Hi Josh et al….. love the podcast…. tried the tire pressure calculator… the results are …interesting… but what I really wanted to explore most was missing… perhaps because of your data set. What was missing was tire type…clincher, tubeless, tubular, and if clincher does the type of tube matter.
Hello,
Congratulations for this amazing podcast!
Question:
On very rough pavement, would a titanium frame be more efficient than a carbon frame, considering same geometry for both? Even with the right tire pressure, I feel like titanium frames can eliminate some remaining vibrations, and therefore carry more speed.
Thanks for your attention!
Question I’m running into with the new tire pressure calculator/tubeless tires. I’m getting fantastic results on my own personal bike, and this have suggested these setting to customers in my shop. My question is this: I have a customer with a 176lb system weight, running a measured width of 29mm on old pavement with road position. Suggestion is 74psi front 76psi rear, however the tires have a minimum suggested pressure of 87psi. Does the matter with tubeless? Is this an issue of tire selection? How do I go about getting around this? I’ve run into this with 3 customers that the tire doesn’t suggest running low enough. Thanks for your help!
