Super Secret 2.0 drip wax is here

Six years ago, SILCA launched the original Super Secret out of a suburban driveway during the pandemic lockdowns. It came in generic white plastic bottles because that was all we could buy during the global supply chain crisis. Even with the chaotic rollout, Super Secret shocked the cycling industry, including the skeptics, by topping Zero Friction Cycling’s efficiency charts as the first drip wax to penetrate chain internals like a hot melt wax.

Instead of resting on the fact that Super Secret was simply very good, we spent the last few years working with Purdue University to build a highly precise chain efficiency testing machine to reinvent the formula. Super Secret 2.0 is the result of that collaboration, and it’s significantly better than its predecessor in every way.

Developed with pros

Feedback from professional athletes and mechanics at the highest level of performance, including WorldTour teams like Visma-Lease a Bike, was a main reason behind the redevelopment. Pros loved using the drip lube for quick top-offs on hot-waxed chains, but its performance lacked in wet conditions. The original version contained a water-based carrier fluid to suspend, which we found could be reactivated in heavy storms and cause the lube to wear off quicker than in dry conditions.

Super Secret 2.0

Super Secret 2.0 ditches the water based emulsifier for a waxed based emulsifier resulting in 2-3x better wet weather performance. We also shrank the wax particles down to pack a higher percentage of wax into the bottle and upgraded the friction modifier from standard tungsten disulfide to a stacked fullerene platelet structure. This provides better penetration into chain surfaces for longer periods of time.

The results are already in from field testing and confirmed by top professionals. According to Dirk Van De Ven, Visma’s Performance Specialist: "From our perspective, the main differences [from the original version] are that the new drip wax adheres better to the chain, performs better in wet conditions, and gets much less dirty."

Super Secret 2.0 ditches the water-based carrier for an alternative fluid eliminating the original version’s wet-weather issues. We also shrank the wax particles down to pack a higher density into the bottle and upgraded the friction modifier from standard tungsten disulfide to a stacked fullerene platelet structure. This provides better penetration into chain surfaces for longer periods of time.

These laboratory improvements translate into real-world marginal gains, as proven in our collaborative testing with Purdue University. Super Secret 2.0 saves watts over the original formula, putting it on par with our Secret Blend hot wax. Compared to the 45-minute break in period of hot wax, Super Secret 2.0 only requires between 15 and 20 minutes to achieve peak efficiency. It has double the lifespan in mud and wet weather, where you can expect about 350 km out of each application.

Super Secret is still 100% compatible with our hot melt Secret Blend and modifiers like EnduranceChip and SpeedChip. You can still alternate between hot dips and quick drip top-offs. Best of all, we’ve kept Super Secret 2.0’s retail price identical to the original version.
