2026 Bespoked Osaka: Sour Bicycles Purple Haze Gravel Bike
0 comments
Our friends at Sour Bicycles brought a stunning customized Purple Haze gravel bike to display in the SILCA booth at Bespoked in Japan. Striking a balance between a classic European aesthetic equipped with premium American components, the goal for their build was to exude a distinct "Euro" look while highlighting American craftsmanship. The final result blends clean design lines with high-performance utility, creating a custom gravel machine that looks as good on display as it performs on the trail.
The frame’s deep metallic purple paint finish is the project's centerpiece, extending to the color-matched SILCA Impero frame pump. Minimally branded, the frame features Sour’s new outlined “racing” logo on the down tube, allowing the rich color and craftsmanship to shine. Striking silver details contrast the dark purple frame, including the PAUL Component stem and seatpost, along with the integrated seat clamp. Mounted to the fork, the compact ALLYGN front Diamond Rack adds a timeless, metallic elegance to the modern frame.
At its core, the Sour Bicycles Purple Haze is a multi-butted, heat-treated chromoly steel adventure platform designed and handmade in Saxony, Germany. Positioned as Sour's most popular model, this do-it-all rig features aggressive yet comfortable geometry, ample frame and fork clearance for up to 55mm tires, and tough steel construction designed to handle whatever its riders throw at it. Sour dubs it an "all-time, all-places classic" configured with a T47 bottom bracket, modern UDH compatibility, and plenty of mounting points to swap seamlessly between daily life and grueling doubletrack escapes.
Sparing nothing in performance, this Purple Haze features a 1× SRAM RED drivetrain, paired with a single Raketa chainring and a wide-range 10-48 cassette. The bike rolls on deep Astral Luna carbon wheels wrapped in SILCA’s 700 x 55 Protocol RCG-3 tires, offering the perfect blend of aerodynamics and traction. Polished White Industries and SON hubs anchor the wheelset; the front runs a Supernova MY99 paired with an ALLYGN Edelmü rear light, held in place by a custom DRUST rear light holder. Rounding out the cockpit and touchpoints, the drop bars are wrapped in SILCA tape, while a classic matching black Brooks C13 saddle finishes the build.
Beyond its good looks, this Sour Purple Haze is built for versatility. With a generous array of fork mounts ready to carry bags, bottles, and extra luggage, this bike is equally prepared for a fast after-work loop or a multi-day bikepacking excursion.
