Levi Leipheimer & Melisa Rollins: The Growler from Pro & RD perspectives

Great to hear of Levi’s current efforts for cycling & Melisa’s questions, too.

Maybe remind Levi that the UCI’s Gran Fondo series actually allows any aged rider to compete for a rainbow jersey against their age group. So it is still possible to be the ‘best in the world in one’s age-group’ at something cycling related.

Being a DownUnder WC event, should limit the attending field somewhat, increasing the odds of winning for those more intent on trying. It’s a long way from most other places, with Paris & LA at 21 & 16 hrs away respectively!

I do believe that The Growler maybe too long to qualify for that UCI series, however, but the UCI has been known to change its regs!

Although I had a set-back at last year’s qualifier at my annual Amy’s GF event, this October, the world is coming DownUnder to race there, including those last 40 odd kilometres along the very scenic Great Ocean Road. It can be a nice distraction for when the hurt is really starting to rise.

Starting after the UCI event will be the ‘chasing’ group of everyone else not racing for a jersey, where I’ll be still covering those 122kms & 1800+metres of climbing with every Silca inspired MG onboard.
