Seat bag users fall into two categories: Seat Roll aficionados and seat bag users.  Traditionally, seat bags have been simple open spaces that allowed content to jangle about, making noise and rubbing against each other.  Often times a spare tube was pulled out of a seat bag to reveal it was more full of holes than the tube being replaced due to friction against a house key or multi-tool.  With Mattone, we designed a layout similar to a book, where the bag can fully open to hold the tube and CO2 cartridge on one side, separated by a padded ballistic nylon ‘page’ separating it from the other side where you can store an inflator head, multi-tool, contact lens case, etc. The ‘page’ also contains a slot for a credit card, ID, money, or house key.  The unique off-center Aquaguard Zipper allows the case to completely open and lay flat when off the bike, while also allowing easy access to the multi-tool and money/card slots when on the bike without risk of spilling all the contents of the bag.

A high friction Hypalon strap with BOA® Closure completes the package.  Making more than 15x the power of Velcro®, the BOA® Closure uses a ratcheting mechanism that will not creep or loosen even under the most extreme vibration and impact.  This ensures the Mattone will remain ‘high and tight’ under your saddle until you need to access it... no swinging, swaying, or rattling... ever!

    Fav Seat Pack atm

For me the perfect size for the peace of mind stuff someone carry on rides. The BOA, as expected, works like a charm, no rattling whatsoever !

Why didn't I do this sooner? Lean and mean.

I had been running a brand "O" waterproof seat bag which has done its job just fine although the Velcro strap around the seat tube caused slight wear on my cycling shorts, and tools in the bag rattled. When I looked at the Mattone the retention system it seemed like an elegant way to quiet any rattles and liked the idea of getting rid of O's clamp on my seat rails.

The Mattone's strap retention system is just amazing as everything tightens up so firmly. No more noises, although did decide to swap out individual tools for the Silca's Vent which provided me more tools options in a very compact format that fit in the Mattone.

I carry two CO2's, spare tube, Park patch kit (also carry a Pocket Impero which I have used on rides when two CO2's have been used), Park tri-spoke wrench, Park Tire boot (not shown), Gear wipe, tire levers (if needed for others), cash, and back up driver's license. Love the Mattone's compact size and outstanding retention system.

Snug but just the Right Size

I wanted a seat pack that was smaller than the one I currently own, as it was just a bit too big for daily rides with what I felt I needed to carry.

This pack is definitely smaller but just fits what I need for short to medium distance rides. Here is what I was able to pack in that I would normally carry on a ride:

    1. Full size tube, 700c x 28 to 32mm

    2. Pedros tire levers

    3. Pack of peel and stick tube patches

    4. Small first aid kit, which includes a couple of antiseptic wipes and Band-Aids

    5. Silca Venti Multi-tool

    6. Small Presta valve removal tool (I run my tires tubeless)

    7. Presta to Schrader valve adapter

I usually carry a pump in my jersey pocket, so I don't normally pack a CO2 cartridge that often, but there is enough room for a 16 gram CO2 cartridge and a small regulator, like the Silca EOLO (I added them to the pack for the photo just to see if they fit; the EOLO came free with my purchase, nice!).

Also, I have a second wheelset for gravel rides, which takes a 700c x 35 to 47mm spare tube, which I think would squeeze in OK, (without the CO2 cartridge).

The pack definitely looks nice and compact on the back of the saddle!

I hope this info is helpful with what I was able to fit in the pack. I know that I wanted a smaller pack, but I was unsure how much smaller the pack would be, and if everything I wanted to fit in it would actually fit, as I made my purchase online going on just the photos, listed dimensions, and the Silca "How to Pack" video.
