At SILCA, one of our strongest beliefs is in the protection in your investment and more importantly, in the protection of yourself.  Bar Tape should be replaced at least every year for the best performance and for safety checks of corrosion on aluminum bars or damage to carbon bars.  We want to make sure that you are covered by providing the first crash replacement program for bar tape.

Inspired by advancements in running shoe foam and F1 tires as well as our own research into rolling efficiency, impedance and damping, we realized that materials technology could allow for a significant improvement in bar tape. Using a laminate of SILCAthane, SILCAlon and 3M Visco-elastic adhesive instead of a single foam extrusion, the tape can be optimized across a range of desired features. The resulting tape has a softer, more comfortable feel, higher wet and dry grip, better vibration isolation, and 3-5x the durability of existing tape materials. Since the actual wrap of the tape can be as important as the tape itself, we’ve also developed a full adhesive backed ‘butterfly’ to better cover the back of the lever clamp area without adding bulk, a high grip finishing tape and expanding aluminum/composite end plugs to ensure every detail is perfect.

A new standard in bar tape for me

I've been cycling for well over 30 years and have been a faithful Cinelli cork ribbon tape rider for the vast majority of that time. I've tried a few other tapes but always went back. Not any more. Not after using this tape - it's like everything else Silca makes; just a cut above the competition. Tacky without sticky, cushions without being squishy. My only complaint is that I'd like it to be longer to fit over the RedShift Cruise Control drop bar grips I use on my other bike. Otherwise, this is simply awesome bar tape.

Good cushion, great grip but have to wash the tape about every 2 rides to make it white again (let alone like new). Will try the Cuscino next.

Pix are 3 rides in after a washing:

We have found gear wipes and magic erasers to be great for getting white bar tape clean again. One big culprit of dirt on the bar tape is gloves. Since they are often dark colors it is easy for dirt to stay on them without noticing and then they get rubbed on the white tape, making it dirty.
